The ‘appliance’ of science
This concept project explored innovative new opportunities for Samsung’s large domestic appliance group. An in-depth Europe-wide research project highlighted the ongoing trend towards open-plan living, with many people wanting appliances to fit better within contemporary interiors.
Creating an icon
This refrigerator can be set up in a traditional vertical orientation or as a horizontal sideboard. The introduction of legs gave it visual lightness, making it less imposing in an interior.
Thinking it through
Flexibility in orientation led to the need for a symmetrical interior where shelves and doors could work both vertically and horizontally.
Attractive enough to leave out
The research showed that many people left their vacuum cleaners out after use. This concept references the simplicity of furniture rather than the exaggerated ‘performance’ styling of many vacuum cleaners.
Drawers and doors
Accessories and the hose inlet are hidden behind a clean front panel and are only accessed when required.
