This folding chair was part of a range of very low cost, ultra-flat pack furniture GRO designed for BIF in 2002.
The challenge for GRO was to create a sturdy, comfortable and cost effective folding chair that was still simple, elegant and memorable.
The seat and backrest are identical plastic mouldings. Their distinctive outline and curved profile are both very comfortable and greatly reduced the tooling investment for this chair.

We wanted this chair to be simple and elegant both when folded and unfolded. To achieve this we developed a new principal that hinged the seat and back rest exactly on top of each other for flat and tidy storage.
BIF produced the Testudo range for five years before finally retiring it. GRO would be interested to license this design again to interested furniture manufacturers.
