It starts with understanding. A visit to Photokina by the whole team including our visiting designer from the Samsung digital camera group, Soo Jung Lee.
This design was appreciated for its distinctive construction that created a simple, clean and elegant design. The metal body is designed to be manufactured as a single part.
The metal body encapsulates all the controls and links the interface on the rear with the camera lens and shutter on the front.
Back printed acrylic panels reveal the flash component on the front and a large 3 inch LCD display on the rear.
The Samsung wordmarks are back printed so they will have a lasting, quality appearance.
From capture to consumption
The recharge docking station acts as a stand for the 3 inch LCD display.
As well as having large data storage, the dock has an additional speaker to enhance the sound quality for sharing video clips with friends and family.
The second design developed and made into a visual appearance model.
The subtle form on the front surface creates a defined edge that gives a reassuring tactile grip.
Careful attention is given to the positioning of all controls so that the camera can be operated comfortably in the hand.
An early sketch can be quite close to the final design.
Often the challenge is to retain the spirit of an early sketch as the design develops.
Early thoughts are communicated to identify potential user benefits.
The rubber strap protects the chrome band from scratching when stored in a bag or pocket and also functions as a reassuring hand strap.
We often find that there are great opportunities in the accessories offered with products as these are often considered as after thoughts.
By putting the user at the center of our thinking, we develop ideas that could add value to their total experience.
Within this project we proposed ideas that we believed would add a benefit to the user and significant value to the product offer.
In this case we proposed a charging base that also included memory so that images and video can be backed up automatically. The base also acted as an adjustable ‘picture frame’ so that videos and images can be shared easily without the need to hold the camera in the hand.
