going the extra mile
The increasing volume of commuting traffic is having a major impact on the environment and the quality of urban life. Embracing recent advances in rechargeable battery technology, we took the initiative to develop a clean and stylish solution for daily commuting needs and at the same time giving the electric scooter its own identity and appeal.
Our objective was to design an electric scooter that is environmentally friendly, simple to use and most importantly, appealing to a style-conscious rider.
With its pure, triangular forms, Scoot is characterised by visual harmony and strength. Each part and split line is considered within the context of the overall identity. A calligraphic, diamond-shaped structure on the footboard and tire profile adds a highly distinctive signature.
The simple, flat shapes of the Scoot are an ideal canvas for applied graphics. Imagine if all 17,000 athletes of the Olympics used electric scooters to travel to and from their events.
testing to inform creativity
Before we begin developing concepts we invest time to study the market, test a wide variety of products and investigate potential technologies. This analysis enriches our thinking on many levels and defines filters to assess potential ideas.
Our design thinking addressed every aspect of the vehicle. From ergonomic considerations, to the overall identity and product detailing, right through to the user interface. The aim was to define a level of interaction and feedback that was simple and intuitive to use.
GRO collaborated with two world-class partners. TIM model-makers and Korff & van Mierlo photographers. Each contributed their considerable skill and knowledge to communicate this showcase project.
a tradition of self-initiated projects
Reflecting our passion and commitment to design, every year we invest in self-funded projects which explore relevant aspects of design. These trigger us to investigate new areas and refresh the way we think and create. These showcase projects illustrate our creativity, quality and experience to a wider range of potential clients.
After scoot’s presentation at the Milan Furniture Fair 2006 there has been an overwhelmingly positive response from the media (magazines, blogs, etc.). Scoot has been exhibited worldwide and still receives enquiries and global consumer interest.
GRO is looking for a quality minded partner to invest in and develop this product for production.
