Thin compact digital camera with internal vertical zoom.
Following the highly successful introduction of the Samsung NV range of digital cameras in 2006, GRO was asked to propose a next generation design language.
One of the qualities we wanted to explore was to give the identity a more human and less technical feel, while still keeping a pure and simple design language. The result was a balanced design with both digital and organic human qualities.
The subtle surface definition and outline of the camera give it a really nice tactile feel in the hand and the raised finger grip, ‘pulled’ from the surface, provides a reassuring grip.
The 3” touch screen display on the rear of the product resulted in fewer physical keys and gave the product a clean and contemporary feel.

The lens area has a soft, fluid transition from the body to the extended camera lens; as if the surface has been stretched to accommodate the lens component.
The thin chrome line integrated into the body gives the product a refined and jewel-like quality.
All the details are resolved within the brushed metal band, including the flash.
The range was completed with the design of a larger ‘bridge type’ digital camera.
The design language was further developed by the Samsung digital camera group, resulting in the release of the Samsung PL10 in 2009.
