It is always challenging to design distinctive products for the mass market as it becomes more difficult to achieve broad acceptance when the design language is too revolutionary.
In the case of the 6500, GRO took a more evolutionary approach, simplifying the overall appearance and paying particular attention to the quality of the materials and finishing. This, combined with precise detailing, resulted in a highly distinctive and desirable product.
GRO worked closely with designers from Nokia throughout the project. The close collaboration enriched the design process and led to a very high quality end product.
nokia 6500 classic – thin sophistication
The use of a seamless, extruded aluminium body gave the product incredible strength and allowed it to be exceptionally thin (9.5 mm), while a brushed and coated anodized finish ensured that it remained unscratched and finger-print free.
nokia 6500 slide – dependable quality
The 6500 slider was made from pressed stainless steel further enhancing its robustness and scratch resistance.
To emphasise the quality of the Carl Zeiss optics on board, the camera specification is engraved into the stainless steel back cover, giving a discrete and high quality impression.
From a distance the 6500 series does not shout for attention; it is only when you hold them in your hand that you feel the quality of the materials and the attention to detail that gives the products a quietly confident sophistication.
The simplicity of the range meant it worked well in almost any colour. The silver variation is a particular favourite of ours.
